Great American Inc. Sponsors ALS Charity Golf Tournament

Untitled (3)

On Friday, October 4, 2024, Great American Inc. was a proud sponsor at the ALS Charity Golf Tournament at Tally Mountain Golf Course in support of Josh Harris in his courageous battle against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). This event is more than just a golf tournament—it symbolizes hope, resilience, and the power of community. We’re coming together not only to support Josh and his family but also to raise awareness about ALS and its devastating effects.

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that gradually robs people of muscle control. The disease causes nerve cells to break down, which results in the loss of muscle functionality. Everyday tasks like getting dressed, eating, and even breathing become significant challenges. In its most severe stages, ALS can take away a person’s ability to walk, use their arms and hands, and even speak. Despite being classified as a “rare” disease, the risk of developing ALS is higher than many realize—affecting 1 in 300 people. Unfortunately, there is no cure or effective treatment for ALS today, making the battle even more daunting.

Our friend, Josh Harris, was diagnosed with ALS on September 28, 2023. Since that heartbreaking day, Josh has faced an excruciating and relentless battle. The disease has already taken away the use of his arms and is starting to impact his legs. But despite this physical toll, Josh’s spirit remains unbroken. His community is rallying to support him and his wife, Meredith, through this tough journey.

This charity golf tournament, known as Josh’s PALS, is more than just a fundraiser. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of ALS, while helping Josh and his family deal with the overwhelming financial burden of this disease. The average cost of care for an ALS patient is an astonishing $1.4 million. The proceeds from this tournament will go toward Josh’s medical expenses, home modifications like ramps and elevators, an electric wheelchair, medications, therapy supplies, and other essential daily expenses.

At Great American Inc., we believe in the power of community, and we are honored to be part of this important event. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and offer hope to those battling ALS.
